Citators Print Page

Print and online sources to later citations to regulations and decisions

There are two print citators, one for regulations and one for agency decisions.  Shepards Code of Federal Regulations Citations will offer citations and editorial analysis for editions and sections of the Code.  Shepards Administrative Citations will offer similar citation history and editorial analysis for decisions categorized by selected agency. Shepards online (Lexis and Lexis Nexis Academic) and KeyCite (Westlaw) can also give citation reports for sections of the CFR and administrative decisions, just as they would for any court decision.  Bloomberg Law offers an electronic citator as part of its online offerings.

These online services expand the range of cited documents compared to coverage in the print volumes. They expand the timeliness of a citator check as well.  Both systems update their coverage in real time.  If a new case or administrative decision cites and older decision, that new case will appear in the citator report for the older case shortly after it comes on to each system.  The appearance will not depend on whether the new decision has a permanent or formal citation.
